NOT AGAIN!!!!

Ok my horrid little laptop thought it would be funny to destroy everything it had on it, strange how any computer I seem to own likes to do that, just when I get started on college stuff, grrrr it is so grounded. So apologies for the lack of updates on here, I've spent the entire week crying and playing nurse Mel, coaxing it back to life, just need to get Maya back on there and I'm away. My graphics aren't what they were so somethings missing hmph.

Anyway rambling aside, I'm definately doing the Cathedral hooray. Instead of a flythrough type thing, it's going to be a recreation for a museum exhibition showing the cathedral in the era it would have been built. Jolly good fun I say, so hopefully I can catch up the week I've lost and get stuck into the masses of research needed.

Somebody modelled this?

I hate them already...

Unfortunately the model in question wont be on disply again until 2010 when the new Liverpool museum opens, bummer. Still I like a challenge I do, probably not a good thing. I've scoured the net (again, good ol' trusty internet) and found yet more stunning photos of the model, i'm thinking a spending spree is in order also, Amazon here I come.

Someone has some serious talent and patience to create this, it's a shame it was never completed.

Back to the drawing board...

So the game trailers a no go. I've gone back to the idea of creating a flythrough for a building never built. I've come across a model for a cathedral designed by Edwin Lutyen, the model has been intricatly created to show details but I've found no sign of any virtual tour so I'm thinking this would be a good thing to do as it isn't always on exhibition.

How exquisite is that? The cathedral plans were abandoned after WW2 and the model itself was never completed and restoration on the model has been ongoing since 1992. Edwin Lutyen was commissioned to design a cathedral for the Roman Catholic community in the 1930's on the site of the current Metropolitan Cathedral, WW2 and lack of funds meant only the crypt was ever built.

Cars

All the cars used in the film are real vehicles heavily modified with armour plating and weapons

  • Frankenstein's Monster - A Fifth Generation Ford Mustang armed with 2 M134's, smokescreen, napalm and oil slick for defense, as well as a 6-inch thick steel plate on the rear bumper called "The Tombstone."
  • Machine Gun Joe's truck - armed with a cowcatcher, 4 hood-mounted heavy machine guns, 2 side-mounted Vulcan cannons and Russian RPG-7's.
  • Porche 911 - Driven by the Chinese convict 14K. With 2 WW2 German MG-42 belt-fed general purpose machine guns and hood-mounted missiles.
  • Buick Riviera - Pachenko's chop-top. Armed with 4 German hood-mounted MG-34's and 2 internal 50 cals machine guns.
  • Pontiac Trans AM - Carson's Car. Has a heavy machine gun aiming backwards for defense, and a 50 caliber turret on top of his car which is operated by his navigator.
  • Jaguar XJS - British sports car driven by Travis Colt with 2 .50 cal M2 Browning machine guns.
  • Chrysler 300C, Luxury Sedan - driven by Grimm armed with 3 hood-mounted RPK's with no stocks.
  • BMW E32 - Siad's car. Armed with a single Minigun.
  • The Dreadnaught - A semi trailer built by Hennessy with .50 caliber Browning heavy machine guns, flame thrower, spikes on the wheels, bulldozer blade, caltrops and a M1A1 tank turret.
  • Chevrolet Chevelle SS - Custom muscle car driven by Case, arriving at the junkyard in Mexico City before the ending
So plenty of vehicles to choose from to show in a game trailer

Complete change

I've been very naughty today and sat down to watch a film to release my frustration of not having a concept yet. I've just been watching Death Race with Jason Statham, great film. For those who may not be familiar with it, it's a reasonably newish film 2008 about a guy set up for a crime he didn't commit (that old chestnut yes I know, bear with me here). He goes to prison and they have a rather violent race match which is televised for the sadistic public. Whoever wins 5 games in a row is set free. They are partnered with another prison and have to race for not only their freedom but also their lives. Their vehicles are fitted with all sorts of deadly contraptions to kill each other off in a bid to win the race.

Anyhoo rambling aside, I'm thinking new film, perhaps there isn't a game out of it. Am I smelling a possible game trailer here? Or am I smelling copyright, slapped wrists?

Concept suggestions

The other concept idea which was suggested to me was inventions that were never actually created. Leonardo da Vinci being a good example. Maybe taking his top 10 inventions and creating the CG to display them in a museum environment.

Leonardo's design for a flying machine

This design got me thinking about the Wright brother's successful experiment for flight and thought about maybe creating a simulator. Unfortunately as I checked up on it, it's already been done, how inconsiderate.

Leonardo's Helicopter

Throughout looking at Leonardo Da Vinci's work, although some were never created there have been model's created which instantly put me off the idea of involving him in my concept. It did however get me thinking of using other artists. While at work last night I started dilly-daydreaming about Michaelangelo, genius that he was. How fun would it be to be a fly (I'm sensing a theme with flight here), happily buzzing away in the Sistine Chapel but instead of the 2d painiting on the ceiling I'm merrily flying around a 3d version of that famous ceiling. Am I making sense? Probably not.

Michaelangelo's Sistine Chapel

I'm getting tht familiar advice replaying in my head - "is there a need to see it as CG?" Erm well no, it would be great fun to do though. Ok that's out as well then. Step away from the artists and get back to the inventions or delve further into flight perhaps

Getting closer to a project...

Ok, I've had another chit chat regarding my project, or lack of. A walkthrough of a building or '3d diagram' of an invention that wasn't actually created was decided yay, I'm glad about that one. It was also suggested looking into follies, I'd never actually heard of these but I find them interesting the more I delve.

So to start, what is a folly? In architecture a folly is a building with no actual purpose other than for ornate values. They are often built as a conversational piece or to commerate a person or event.
